Energy coverage is alive and well in the media today. The interest is driven by climate change, new technology, and business development opportunities. One of the best ways for people to keep track of energy is through a podcast. You may or may not already know of the Disruption! – Solar Energy Podcast brought to you by this site, SecondSilicon.com. It’s still new, but growing. And of course, I’d like to have as many listeners as possible. But I’m all about making the pie bigger. The more the merrier if you ask me. The truth is, there are not nearly enough energy podcasts to satiate my clean tech news needs. Though podcasting as a medium has only been around for about a decade, there are already far more energy related podcasts in the podcast graveyard than there are active energy podcasts. That’s one of the reasons why I started my own. However, the few that we do have are fantastic podcasts about energy that you should listen to in addition to Disruption! Here are the
four five best active energy podcasts to satisfy your desire to keep up with all things energy.
1. The Energy Gang
Hopefully, I’ll get to this level one day. But unmistakably, The Energy Gang, just six months in, is the crème de la crème of energy podcasts. Put together with the full might and resources of Greentech Media, the production, content, and hosts are nearly flawless in execution. Stephen Lacey hosts and moderates the discussion on the podcast. He is assisted by energy policy expert Katherine Hamilton and none other than the great Jigar Shah, who I was fortunate enough to have in the early days of my own podcast. Each of these hosts do an amazing job sharing their respective expertise and insights each week. Check the links below to add this podcast to your playlist.
2. This Week in Energy
This is where it all started for me. I have been a steady listener of This Week in Energy for well over a year now. But the podcast has roots all the way back to 2009. I reached out to host Bob Tregilus a few months ago to ask about democratized energy. Instead of a short answer by email, Bob invited me to appear on the podcast to ask questions myself. This in turn, gave me the courage to finally start up my own solar energy podcast.
This Week in Energy features the aforementioned Bob Tregilus along with co-host Kirsten Hasberg, who appeared on the very first episode of Disruption! The perspective they bring to discussing matters of energy is quite unique. As Bob said as a guest on my podcast, “It’s not about getting people rich, it’s about moving our entire energy system to 100% renewable energy and democratizing our electrical grid.
3. Talk Solar
Another solar energy podcast and another former guest! This podcast is the closest one in terms of content to my own. Beth Bond, out of Atlanta, Georgia has been interviewing important persons in the solar space since April 2013. Beth is a very active member of the solar community with her @BethSEGreen Twitter account and her website. hope to see this podcast coming to Stitcher Radio soon. But there are a number of other options for downloading this great solar energy podcast.
4. Go Green Radio
Brought to you by VoiceAmerica, the self described leader in internet media, Go Green Radio has withstood the test of time. It is closing in on it’s 300th episode. Jill Buck, the host of the program, is not only a born radio personality, but she’s got ton’s of green cred. She wrote the Go Green Initiative in 2002. Jill and her guests cover a wide spectrum of green issues, but the lion’s share of topics deal with . . . you guessed it, energy.
5. Disruption: Solar Energy
Disruption! – Solar Energy is the accompanying podcast for SecondSilicon.com. I started this podcast in order to immerse myself into solar and learn as much as I possibly could by interviewing the experts. It’s worked out even better than imagined. My knowledge of energy issues has increased exponentially since beginning the podcast and the connections I’ve made have been invaluable. My hope is that like minded listeners can join me on my journey. The podcast features a variety of guests including solar CEO’s, authors, policy experts, and professional bloggers and podcasters. Disruption! – Solar Energy attempts to bring all aspects of solar to one place. If you are interested in clean tech investment, energy policy, or energy technology, please subscribe to the Disruption! podcast.
